2024 Report
In the spring of 2024, we ran a sailing camp for children in the Bahamas. The national sport of the Bahamas is sailing, but there are few opportunities for young people to sail, much less learn how to sail. It seems that children growing up on an island should have more all learn the sport of sailing! 2024 was our second year of leading the youth camp in the Bahamas. The spring sailing camp was a success, at first the children were timid, but once aboard, they were blasting around the island on our sailing dinghies. Plans are in the works for spring of 2025.
Summer came quickly and our camps were in full swing by Mid-June. I was excited to have Jackson take charge as our head instructor at the sailing camp. Jackson started with us as a camper several years ago and has worked his way up through the ranks. He has become a very accomplished sailor and a great leader. In fact, all of our staff this year have been former campers. That is our goal. Train up the young people to be more than sailors, but to be leaders and sailing instructors. Congratulations to Tru and Sammy who passed the ASA Instructor Qualification Clinic and are now official ASA Sailing Instructors!
We enjoyed having the Dream Center from Washington DC, Argus House, Aurora House and The Ann Arundel County Police Community Partnership all sail with us this summer.
