Warm Reception and Sad Goodbyes
It was a relief to pull into a dock after a week at sea. It seems we found the only docks that were intact on the island at The Green Turtle Club. Gam Zu (our boat) was sitting very low in the water due to being loaded down with tons of supplies. We were met by some wonderful friends who had not received any relief supplies since the hurricane. It was exciting offloading all the fresh food and equipment to people who really needed it!
As we brought load after load down the dock, we watched Gam Zu slowly float higher and higher in the water until we could finally see her waterline again! It was amazing how much we were able to load aboard the boat and how much it could carry as we sailed down from Maryland.
Along with filling Eddie’s pickup truck we rented a golf cart, the main mode of transportation on the island, and made several delivery trips to town.
Thank you to all who gave food and supplies for our trip. I wish you could have seen the excitement as we started to distribute your gifts.
It was sad to see Richard and Tracy Fuller head back home after our arrival in the Bahamas. They were wonderful crew members and quickly became part of the family. It was such a blessing having them aboard for the beginning of our adventure. They are new sailors, and this was their first offshore passage. They rose to the challenge of handling the large ocean swells, strong winds and late-night watches with courage and excitement to learn.
With most of our supplies offloaded, now it is time to get to work!
