Learning to sail on small boats is a favorable introduction to the sport of sailing. Getting a good foundation will make for a smoother transition to sailing big boats if ever desired. At sailing camp we have both land and water sessions. When not in the water we discuss, how to find the wind, parts of the boat, knot tying, rigging, and much more. On the water each young person will get the chance to use the tiller and trim the sails. Students will also get plenty of chances to swim and learn what to do in the case of a man overboard or the event of a capsize.
Students will sail with a team for the week. Generally, at the beginning of week students sail with an instructor. At the end, students are proficient enough to sail the dinghies as a team while their instructor coaches them from an inflatable dinghy. During the week students will compete in several sailing games and races. The top teams at the end of the week receive awards for their achievements
In the case of poor weather we will have alternative land activities and games.
*Scholarships are available for qualifying individuals/groups.
