Whether you have sailing in your blood or are just getting your feet wet, Cruising Camp is a great opportunity to gain sailing experience, explore the Chesapeake Bay, meet new people, and have fun. For one week we will set sail on a 30-40’ sailboat. Expect a lot of hands on learning. Teens will participate with all aspects of cruising, such as building their sailing skills, navigation, course plotting, docking, boat systems, safety, man overboard training. Sailing curriculum follows American Sailing Association 101 course work. At the end of the week students will have the option to test for their ASA 101 certification.
Students will develop new friendships as they work together as a crew to sail their vessel from port to port. In addition to sailing, students will have the opportunity to explore the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, try crabbing, and canon ball into the bay. Depending on the weather and student preferences other opportunities are likely to arise. Past camps have included touring the Naval Academy and Capitol State Building in Annapolis, kayaking, sailing Hobie Cats, and enjoying an evening bonfire.
Meals are included in camp fees. Students will work together to prepare their meals and clean up.
Cruising Camps are open to both individuals and groups. For more details fill out the inquiry form on the Youth Adventures page.
